What should I do with my front yard?

Don’t want to mow the lawns and prune your roses? You are not alone!

The typical Australian block has a fair amount of space and what was traditionally a large lawn with some roses is no longer a useful way to serve us in our day to day lives.

Some of the first questions we would traditionally ask is…

QUESTION 1:

What do you currently use the space for?

QUESTION 2:

Would you like to spend time in the space if it was more appealing?

QUESTION 3:

How much time can you spend to maintain the space?

Whilst these questions are broad they do enable us a better understanding of how to prioritise what we do in a space and gain an overall vision which can then lead us to the technical.

Often the answer goes a little like this ….

”We do not need the space at all we are just looking for something low maintenance and beautiful”

In this case we would design a beautifully layered native indigenous garden to create a low maintenance bio diverse environment.

Another common answer we find is …

This is the only usable space on the property and it has beautiful morning sun however we don’t feel comfortable sitting out while all of the cars go past!

In this case we would design a native indigenous garden or food forest just to name a few options that accommodates some practical outdoor living spaces alongside privacy, pollution filtering plants and productive elements.

Let’s see past the traditional roses and grass and reimagine our gardens in wonderful ways.
