The increasingly popular term Permaculture is clear evidence that society is willing to embrace the new, in order to live a more harmonious life… But what actually is Permaculture?
In the late ’70s, the increasingly famed Bill Mollison and David Holmgren created a multi-applicable principle based on the patterns in nature.. and trust me, once you have your ah-ha moment in understanding Permaculture, you can’t look back.
In the official manual written and created by Bill Mollison, he states:
”Permaculture (permanent agriculture) is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural eco systems” – Bill Mollison
Nowadays you will find many that have embraced the principles in all walks of life far beyond the garden. and a more current definition lies as: PERMAnent, CULTURE.
The 3 Core Principles of Permaculture have now been adapted to all aspects of life as follows;
- Earth Care
- People Care
- Fair Share
A pretty reasonable way to go it seems? But what about the more detailed principles…
- Observe and interact.
- Catch and store energy
- Obtain a yield
- Apply Self- regulation and Accept Feedback
- Use and Value Renewable Resources and Services
- Produce no Waste
- Design from patterns to details
- integrate rather than segregate
- Use small and slow solutions
- Use and value diversity
- Use edges and value the marginal
- Creatively use and respond to change
I assure you these principles will serve as powerful guides in the business, social relationships, and day-to-day life.
Knowledge is power when action is taken. Are you able to apply any of these principles to your life to make a change for the benefit of both yourself and the planet?
